The AVR ZigBee (802.15.4) combines the 2.4-GHz AT86RF230 802.15.4 radio SoC and ATmega1281 or ATmega 2561, offer seamless migration to wireless networking for AVR developer.

Atmel claims that the 100-dB receive sensitivity and 3-dB transmit power of the AT86RF230 give it the highest link budget of any 802.15.4 radio on the market. The radio consumes 17 mA during transmission, 15 mA during receive mode, and 0.7 µA in sleep mode. In a real-life application with one transmission per minute, the chipset consumes less than 0.01 mAh on average, resulting in a battery life of greater than 5 years using two AA 2,700-mAh batteries.
The microcontrollers offer flash memory densities ranging from 32 to 256 Kbytes. An accessory kit (RZ502) and demonstration kit (RZ200) are also available. (From $4.93; RZ502 kit, $99; RZ200, $499)
