Xilinx strengthens its solution for automotive applications by releasing its single-channel LogiCORE FlexRay controller IP (intelectual property), optimized for the Xilinx Automotive Spartan-3 generation devices. The IP Core works with the middleware stack and drivers developed by Vector. Xilinx has also recently completed work with Vector to develop and release low-level drivers for its CAN LogiCORE IP for the automotive market.

FlexRay is a time-triggered and deterministic communication protocol from the FlexRay Consortium is quickly gaining traction in the industry as an automotive networking standard

The Xilinx LogiCORE FlexRay controller core is designed for use in automotive network applications demanding highly fault tolerant synchronous and asynchronous transfer capabilities. he Xilinx FlexRay core can be configured to provide a flexible solution for applications such as automotive network backbones, body control units, test equipment and gateways.

Xilinx LogiCORE FlexRay controller core can be used in standalone mode or connected to PowerPC or Xilinx MicroBlaze processors. The FlexRay core is designed to FlexRay specification 2.1A and is verified in hardware to enable users to quickly deliver flexible and affordable FPGA-based automotive systems.

Key Features

  • Designed to FlexRay Specification Version 2.1A
  • Data rates up to 10 Mbps
  • Single communication channel
  • Scalable synchronous and asynchronous data transmission
  • Configurable Buffer storage supporting up to 128 messages
  • Configurable payload length
  • Full support of error and status notification
  • Frame ID, Cycle Counter and Message ID based receive filtering
  • Use standalone with a generic bus interface or in conjunction with MicroBlaze soft processor and On-chip peripheral Bus interface (OPB)

With its LogiCORE FlexRay controller core, Xilinx further strengthens its solution in cars and vehicles applications such as driver assistance systems, gateway, and other applications where real-time, deterministic, communication between system components are critical. The company continues to heavily invest in building optimized and flexible in-vehicle networking IP cores for the XA line of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to better serve the automotive market.

Price of  LogiCORE FlexRay controller IP is $22,000.
