Texas Instruments (TI) introduced the TPS62260LED, a new RGB LED (Light Emitting Diode) Design Kit. This
LED driver
design kit, along with TI’s eZ430-RF2500 development tool, provides a
platform to design color lighting innovations, including a wireless RF remote
control
system.

TPS62260LED board
controls the color and brightness of a lamp or runs an automatic color light
animation program. Developers create color with three (red, green and blue) high-brightness
LEDs. An MSP430F2131 microcontroller controls the brightness of each LED with
constant current generated by three TPS62260 LED drivers.

By using eZ430-RF2500 development tool, developers can utilize wireless communication
(plugs on TPS62260LED board), allowing to create a lighting network of RF
remote-controlled
lamps. Utilization of RF remote control allows for better management of LED
lamp-lighting intensity and color. With  RF remote control, the need for
additional infrastructure to control the lamp is eliminated.

Key features of  TPS62260LED LED Driver:

  • 2 V to 6 V Supply Voltage Range
  • Output Current up to 600 mA
  • 2.25 MHz Fixed Frequency Operation
  • Power Save Mode at Light Load Currents
  • Typ. 15 μA Quiescent Current
  • Soft Start
  • Voltage Positioning at Light Loads

Pricing:

  • TPS62260LED-338 Three-Color LED Driver Evaluation Module includes a
pre-programmed MSP430 microcontroller and documentation. Price is $19.
  • MSP430 can be reprogram by a separate MSP430 Flash Emulation Tool such as
the MSP-FET430UIF Development Tool. It cost $99.
  • eZ430-RF2500 development tool can be ordered separately with tag price:
    $49.

A free Code Composer Essentials for
MSP430 is an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for programming and debugging
an applications can be downloaded at www.ti.com/cce.
