Atmel claimed that the company has delivered AT90SC12836RCT secure microcontroller, for the new generation Vitale 2 card system (French National Health program).

The AT90SC12836RCT has 128KB of ROM for program memory, 36KB of EEPROM, and 5KB of RAM. It is based on secureAVR technology with 8/16-bit RISC core and the AdvX crypgraphic accelerator.

This evolution of Vitale system has led to a new generation of cards: the Vitale 2, which allows practitioners during consultation to sign invoices and securely access personal medical files. Accesses to these files are highly secured.

Michel Bartosik claimed that Atmel had been delivered more than 50 million secure microcontrollers to power-up Vitale 1 card system. He was also said that the Vitale 2 is the first card based on interoperability specifications in compliance with IAS (Identification, Authentication and Signature) standards
