µPD720180A is a new NEC’s DWA (Device Wire Adapter) IC, which enables
wireless communication between a Wireless USB Host/PC and external
wired USB peripherals

such as printers, storage, home appliances, and other devices supporting USB
2.0. Wireless USB, just like as USB 2.0, has maximum speed of 480 Mbps. Wireless
USB enables wireless communication up to a range of 10 meters.

Compatible with the existing uPD720180, the new uPD720180A DWA chip supports
the frequency range of 3-5 GHz and 5-10 GHz. This expanded frequency range is
expected to help popularize Wireless USB-based systems by solving some of the
limitations of conventional systems. µPD720180A Device Wire Adapter IC allows
consumers to associate their devices wirelessly, making it easier to get systems
up and running.

NEC μPD720180 complies with the WiMedia MAC specification and
wireless universal serial bus
specification. The uPD720180 has four wired
downstream-ports and one wired upstream-port. The upstream-port and wireless
connection are exclusively used.

Features of uPD720180A Device Wire Adapter chip:

  • Compliant with wireless universal serial bus specification
    • Supports eight data rates (53.3 Mbps, 80.0 Mbps, 106.7 Mbps, 160 Mbps,
      200 Mbps, 320 Mbps, 400 Mbps, 480 Mbps)
    • Supports four data transfer types (control transfer, bulk data transfer,
interrupt data transfer, and isochronous data transfer)
    • Supports AES-128 CCM
    • Self beaconing device
  • Compliant with wireless USB association model guideline
    • Supports USB cable model association
