TI introduced it’s new 1.2-MHz TPS61080 and TPS61081 high-voltage DC/DC boost converter, supporting input voltages from 2.5-V to 6-V. The chips  combines a 1.3-A current switch, a power diode and I/O isolation . The chip is optimized to support single-cell Li-Ion batteries, as well as a three-cell NiMH battery pack or a USB port 5 Volts Input. It also supports point-of-load voltages, such as 3.3-V to 12-V or 5-V to 24-V. The IC integrates a power MOSFET and power diode in a 3 mm x 3 mm QFN package, providing the designer an extremely compact solution with reduced external component count. The converters switching frequency is of 1.2 MHz or 600 kHz.

>Texas introduced a highly integrated boost converter that supports 27-V of output voltage and improves battery life in portable industrial and medical applications, such as portable diagnostic systems.

The TPS61081 can survive and protect external components from a short-circuit situation on any single pin except the input voltage pin. Other protection features on the TPS61081 include programmable soft-start,  over-current protection, over-voltage protection, under-voltage lockout and thermal shutdown.

For development, TI also offers the TINA-TI 7.0 and SwitcherPro Design Tools. The SwitcherPro tool allows designers to create both internally and externally compensated DC/DC power supply designs and analyze circuit performance.

Pricing and Availability
The TPS61080 and TPS61081 boost converters are available today in volume from TI and its authorized distributors.

The TPS61080 and TPS61081 boost converters  come in a 10-pin QFN (3 mm x 3 mm) package. The price of TPS61080 is $1.60 (for 10K) and TPS61081 is $1.75 (for 10K).
