TI introduces TMS320C6A8168 and TMS320C6A8167 Integra DSP + ARM Cortex-A8 Processors

TI is introducing the new C6A816x (TMS320C6A8168 and TMS320C6A8167) Integra DSP + ARM generation of processors. The new processors offer up to 1.5 GHz TMS320C674x DSP and up to 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 performance. Inside C6A816x, the DSP is dedicated to handle signal processing needs, image processing and complex math functions, while the ARM is available for network connectivity, GUIs (graphical user interfaces), system control and application processing. The C6A8168 and C6A8167 Integra DSP + ARM processors are equipped with an on-chip display engine allowing for output of two different streams of content for dual, simultaneous high-resolution displays. This feature makes C6A8168 and C6A8167 an ideal choice for applications requiring a dual-screen action from a single processor. The C6A8168 specifically integrates a 3D SGX530 hardware graphics accelerator, enabling richer graphical actions. C6A8168 and C6A8167 have various peripherals including dual DDR2/DDR3 interfaces, dual Gigabit Ethernet, SATA 2.0, and PCIExpress Gen2. C6A8168 and C6A8167 support multiple OSes (operating systems), including Linux, Microsoft Windows Embedded Compact 7 and Android.

The C6A816x Integra DSP + ARM processors are sampling today. Production pricing starts at $46 per 1,000 units (1ku) for the C6A8167 Integra DSP+ ARM processor and $49 per 1ku for the C6A8168 Integra DSP + ARM processor. The high-performance AM389x Sitara ARM MPUs are pin-to-pin compatible with C6A816x Integra DSP + ARM processors and are also available for order today.
For evaluation of TMS320C6A8168 and TMS320C6A8167 Integra DSP + ARM processors, TI sugests their comprehensive evaluation module (EVM) and the free TI EZ SDK. Designers can begin development on the DDR2 version ( TMDXEVM8168DDR2) today for $1,895. A DDR3 version with video capture capability is expected to begin shipping in 1Q2011. Available for download, the new TI EZ SDK includes ARM and DSP source code and hundreds of ready-to-use DSP kernels. The SDK supports Linux today, and Microsoft Windows Embedded Compact 7 and Android support is planned for 1Q2011.
