NXP Launches TDA9996 HDMI 1.3a Smart Switches

NXP has launched the TDA9996 HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) 1.3a smart switches, enabling connection of multiple HDMI inputs to receive more digital content with a 12-bit Deep Color picture quality. TDA9996 HDMI 1.3a smart switches has built-in auto-adaptive equalizers for maintaining quality of multimedia data over longer HDMI cables.

The TDA9996 is a member of NXP’s HDMI1.3a smart switches family, which also includes the TDA9995 and TDA9993. The TDA9996 has four inputs, while the TDA9995 has three. The TDA9993 is a 1-to-1 buffer.

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a multimedia (audio/video) connector interface for transmitting uncompressed data streams. In a typical application environment, TDA9996 is able to support over 20 meters AWG26 cable on a 12-bit Deep Color 1080p. The switches can handle up to 4 HDMI 1.3a inputs in front of the TV processor allowing the end user to switch between different High Definition multimedia sources.

TDA9996 HDMI 1.3a smart switches offer embedded features that eliminate the need for external components. The devices is embedded with a CEC controller, termination resistors, ESD protection, non-volatile EDID and configuration memory.
