STn8811 Nomadik Mobile Multimedia Application Processor - STMicroelectronics

STMicroelectronics announced the STn8811 mobile multimedia application processor, a new  member of the company’s Nomadik family. STn8811 is an ARM9-based  processor, and it is a successor of STn8810 with speed enhancement by almost 50%. STn8811  provides a high-performance solution for cost-sensitive multimedia products.

The STn8811 mobile multimedia processors is designed for general-purpose applications running alongside image, music and  video processing on mobile phones,  PNDs (personal navigation devices) and PMPs (personal media players).

The ARM926EJ core of the STn8811 multimedia processor runs at 393MHz, compared to 264MHz in the STn8810, and is supported by the innovative Nomadik architecture, which provides smart video and audio accelerators.

The STn8811 mobile multimedia application processor integrates a High-speed USB OTG (On-The-Go) port, SD Card and MMC controller. With its open platform approach, it supports Linux, Symbian, Windows Mobile and WinCE operating systems.

The Nomadik family of multimedia application processors now consists of the STn8810 and STn8810S12 (differing in memory configuration), the STn8811, and the STn8815 which adds imaging and graphics processors, and a level-2 cache.

The STn8811 mobile multimedia application processor is available in a space-saving 12 x 12mm BGA package. It is available in sample quantities now to lead customers, with volume production planned for Q3 2007; pricing is expected to be US$12.90 (10K unit qty).
