NXP announced the BGM220, a 802.11b/g Wireless LAN (WLAN) solution in single-package 81-pin TFBGA. The chips is optimized for handheld applications such as handphones, smartphones, PDAs and handheld game consoles.
The BGM220 is a full WLAN solution, including Baseband, MAC and RF functions, in a single TFBGA (5 x 5 mm) package that supports the SDIO/SPI host interfaces. NXP also provides the reference designs for this chip, including NXP's PMU for advanced power management functionality and validated front-end 3rd party modules.

The BGM220 WLAN chip builds on its predecessor, the BGW211 chip. The new chip offers smaller size and enhanced dynamic power management, optimized for mobile phones and handheld devices. It also enable simultaneous Bluetooth and WLAN connectivity. The BGM220 Wireless LAN solution is designed to support a single antenna for Bluetooth and WLAN.
The BGM220 Wireless LAN chip is designed to meet key WFA interoperability requirements including WPA2 and WMM and supports all relevant enterprise security requirements with CCX extensions. The BGM220 solution comes with driver support for Windows CE, Windows Mobile, Symbian and Linux.
The BGM220 BGM220 WLAN chip is scheduled for sampling during the second quarter of 2007.
