STMicroelectronics introduced the ST21Y036 and ST21Y144, new secure microcontrollers designed for 2.5G and 3G mobile-phone SIM cards. The new micros provide 36 KB and 144 KB of  EEPROM. The microcontrollers is based on 8/16-bit processor core with up to 16-MB linear addressing capability.

The ST21Y036 and ST21Y144 both include a hardware based DES encryption accelerator and user-accessible CRC calculation block. The user EEPROM areas which include 64 bytes of user One Time Programmable memory use highly reliable CMOS submicron technology, and provide 10-year data retention with a typical Erase/Write endurance of 500,000 cycles. Software and firmware generation are supported by a comprehensive set of dedicated development tools for software design and validation.

Today, the ST21Y036 is in volume production; and the ST21Y144 is in sampling. The ST21Y036 is priced at $0.20 and the ST21Y144 at $0.75, in 10K lot qty.
