Texas Instruments (TI) has announced the availability of the OMAP35x Digital Video Software Development Kit (DVSDK) and new OMAP35x, ARM Cortex-A8 based devices, the OMAP3503, OMAP3515, OMAP3525 and OMAP3530 applications processors. The OMAP35x DVSDK is available for no cost with accepted legal terms. The OMAP35x DVSDK and open source development tools simplify the design and accelerate development time. These open source tools will be showcased in LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Francisco from August 4-7, 2008, at TI booth #1232.

A complete development environment is provided with the first OMAP35x DVSDK for the OMAP35x EVM (Evaluation Module), which helps developers to start the design of multimedia applications. The DVSDK includes basic video and audio codecs and designers no longer have to directly manage codecs since TI’s DaVinci technology makes multimedia possible via ARM-based application programming interface (API) libraries, which communicate with the digital signal processor (DSP) and video accelerators. The DVSDK also integrates TI’s codec engine multimedia framework that works on the Linux 2.6.22 kernel today and will also support Windows Embedded CE 6.0 in the near future. Thank to the scalability of the processors, current OMAP35x EVM users can download the OMAP35x DVSDK to continue development on the OMAP3530 device.

The new OMAP3515, OMAP3525 and OMAP3530 applications processors feature combinations of OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics engine, video accelerators and TMS320C64x+ DSP core to fit a customer’s portfolio of products.

  • OMAP3515 processor features Imagination’s PowerVR SGX graphics engine enabling developers to integrate enhanced smart user interfaces with photo-realistic graphics on embedded gaming or simple portable navigation devices.
  • OMAP3525 processor featuring DaVinci technology has a C64x+ DSP and video-centric peripherals for HD video in multimedia driven products.
  • OMAP3530 processor combines the ARM, DSP, graphics engine and peripherals to enable performance-hungry, power-efficient designs with gaming-quality graphics.

The OMAP3503, OMAP3515, OMAP3525 and OMAP3530 processors are available for $25.95, $29.23, $43.49 and $48.34 respectively (in 100 units). The TMDXEVM3503 is available for $1495.
