New WiFi Chip from Atheros - The AR2417

Atheros announced the new WiFi chip, the AR2417. This compact 802.11g chip is the member of the Atheros’s AR5007 family. The AR2417 WiFi chip includes baseband processor, MAC and 2.4GHz radio, LNA, power amplifier in a single CMOS chip.

Key features and specs. of AR2417 WiFi chip:
- Compliant with IEEE 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11d, 802.11e and 802.11i
- Low cost 802.11b/g WiFi solution for Mini-PCI and CardBus products
- Integrated WLAN MAC and baseband processor
- WiFi radio operates from 2.300-2.500GHz
- Integrated power and low noise amplifiers (PA and LNA)
- Eliminates all IF filters, most RF filters; VCO and surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters
- Integrated ADC and DAC
- Supports Atheros JumpStart for Wireless development suite
The AR2417 also supports the 802.11e Quality of Service standard and offers advanced security: AES encryption engine, EAP 802.1x authentication and WPA/WPA2 Personal security.
Atheros offers two development kits for The AR2417 WLAN chip. The first kit includes mini-PCI board for WLAN gateway applications, and the other kit includes cardbus board for wireless PC cards.
The AR2417 WiFi chip is available now in volume qty.
