Texas Instruments announced the of the MSP430 Experimenter's Board (PN: MSP-EXP430FG4618). The board features a MSP430F2013 and a MSP430FG4618. This boards includes a Chipcon RF module connector for wireless networks application development, compatible with Texas Instruments wireless networking evaluation modules. Programming and debugging can be done via two JTAG headers for each MSP430 individually (F2013 and FG4618). With MSP430 Experimenter Board designers will be able to develop a variety of low power and battery operated products, including motion detectors, high precision medical devices and industrial sensing.

The F2013 microcontroller is a small 14 pins 4mm x 4mm device. It includes a 16-bit ADC (sigma delta), 2KB flash memory, 128Byte of RAM and a serial communication interface for SPI and I2C implementations.
The FG4618 microcontroller incorporates the MSP430X core architecture with extended 1MB memory model. The extended memory is targeted for development of larger applications. It allows the development of sophisticated real-time system in modular C. FG4618 microcontroller has three OpAmps to handle precision instrumentation, coupled with the 12-bit ADC, 12-bit DAC, and direct memory access controller (DMA). This integrated signal chain on chip (SCoC) solution reduces overall system cost and eliminates the need for external components.
Key features of MSP430 Experimenter Board:
- Devices: MSP430FG4618 and MSP430F2013
- Can be programmed and debugged using any MSP430 Flash Emulation Tool via two JTAG Interfaces.
- Integrated peripherals: 12-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter, 12-bit SAR Analog-to-Digital Converter, 16-bit Sigma Delta Analog-to-Digital Converter, Operational Amplifiers, DMA, Multiplier, LCD Controller, Communication Interfaces: SPI, UART, I2C, IrDA
- Wireless expansion. Compatible with TI Wireless CCxxx0EMK Evaluation Modules
- I/O: LCD, 2x push buttons, capacitive touch-pad, RS232, headphone, microphone and prototyping space.
JTAG headers on the MSP430 Experimenter Board make both MSP430 chips accessible for programming and debugging. The JTAG header can also be used as communication interface between the two MSP430s or to other external devices. The Experimenter’s Board includes connectors for various Chipcon evaluation modules, which cover the <1GHz and 2.4GHz frequency bands (including IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee wireless transceiver standards).
