Moxa launched the Moxa Protocol Converter (MPC) software engine,
providing developers a tool for coordinating the flow of data
between a wide range of devices and protocols
. Moxa Protocol
Converter is designed to establish bi-directional data stream channels between any two of the embedded computer's ports, and loads custom-written drivers (written in C
language) that audit the data stream as it flows from one port to the other. Moxa
Protocol Converter supports Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, RFC-2217
and custom/proprietary protocols.

Moxa Protocol Converter (MPC) establish data stream

With Moxa Protocol Converter, developers can establish a
communication channel that connects any combination of two channel
ports, without needing to write additional programs. Port-to-port
communication for any devices is driver programmable. Users can program
drivers either by modifying an existing driver or adding a driver to a
channel that performs specific tasks. Moxa Protocol Converter is also easily configured with the Windows-based Moxa Device Manager (MDM), a remote management tool for managing Moxa's ready-to-run embedded computers on a local area network (LAN).

Key benefits of Moxa Protocol Converter (MPC):

  • Moxa Protocol Converter makes port-to-port communication easy
Serial and networking communication is built into the Moxa Protocol Converter
engine. Users do not need to bother programming at the hardware level.
Instead, and instead can easily build channels between ports. A channel is a
logical path that connects two physical communication ports, either of which
could be a serial port or a network port. Data streams can flow between a
serial port and network port, between a LAN port and the same or a different
LAN port, or between two serial ports. Without any additional programming on
the part of the end-user, the Moxa Protocol Converter engine manages
transparent data transmission along a channel that connects any combination of
    two communication ports.
  • Moxa Protocol Converter is driver programmable
Port-to-port communication is driver programmable. Users can create drivers
that perform specific tasks in a channel. A driver can be a “timer” subroutine
that queries each serial device periodically, or a program that convert
protocols between devices. Most field systems are created by making slight
changes to existing systems that are tried and true. By using the Moxa
Protocol Converter engine, these changes can be realized almost immediately by
either modifying a driver, or adding a driver to a channel. Moxa Protocol
Converter supports Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, and RFC-2217. Moxa
Protocol Converter also allows solution developers to add proprietary
    protocols and applications.

Moxa Device Manager (MDM) is a remote management tool for managing Moxa’s
embedded computers on a local area network (LAN). MDM Device Manager helps sys
admin to easily handle the embedded computers located at a remote site using a
friendly user interface. Moxa Device Manager can be used to manage different
models of embedded computer, and embedded computers that use different operating
systems, all from one centrally located computer. As long as the individual
embedded computers are pre-installed with an MDM agent, they can be recognized
and managed by the unified MDM tool from your PC.

Moxa Protocol Converter (MPC) and Moxa Device Manager (MDM) are provided free of charge with Moxa's embedded computers. Users can download
them at Moxa's website.
