Motorola and TI Cooperation in 3G, WiMAX, OMAP Technology

Motorola and Texas Instruments announced their strategic relationship in WiMAX, 3G and OMAP technologies for mobile devices.

As part of the expansion of relationship, Motorola is developing 3G handsets based on a TI 3G solution using TI's OMAP 3 processors architecture. These new 3G handsets targeted to be market available in 2008.



Additionally, TI is supporting Motorola's mobile WiMAX initiative by providing digital design elements, analog, RF solutions, and 65nanometer manufacturing process. The solution will focus on 802.16e mobile WiMAX functionality supporting video, data and voice for mobile applications. The new mobile devices plans to be launched in 2008.

Motorola has also selected TI's OMAP 2, OMAP 3 and OMAP-VoxTM family, including the OMAPV1035 GSM/GPRS/EDGE chipset and the OMAPV1030 GSM/GPRS/EDGE chipset. Motorola plans to use the OMAPV1035 solution, which leverages TI's DRPTM technology, in new low-cost multimedia mobile devices expected to be in the market in 2008.
