Atmel announced the availability ATA6662 LIN bus transceiver IC. The device shows high performance in reduction of EMI and RF interference. This new LIN Transceiver chip also have ESD protection (exceeding 6 kV), make it applicable for harsh automotive environment, including automotive comfort applications such as power seat controls, door modules, intelligent sensors and other low-speed data applications The device meets automotive qualification according to ISO/TR 7637/1.
ATA6662 bus transceiver complies with the LIN2.0 standard. It able to handle up to 40 volts of supply voltages. Improved slope control at the LIN bus ensures Secure data communication can be established at up to 20 kBaud using an simple RC oscillator. This is possible because of the improved slope control at the LIN bus. The ATA6662 LIN bus transceiver can be switched to sleep mode, to minimizes current consumption. In sleep mode, the chip only consume 10uA of current.
Terminology:
LIN = Local Interconnect Network
BCDMOS = Mixed-signal technology with Bipolar, CMOS and DMOS components
EMI = Electro-Magnetic Interferences
EMC = Electro Magnetic Capability
ESD = Electro Static Discharge
ATA6662 LIN2.0 bus transceiver use Atmel’s SMARTIS technology which implement silicon-on-insulator substrate, reducing analog-digital circuit crosstalk and current leakage. The chip’s input filter helps minimize RF interference on the bus line. EMI interference is reduced by incorporating a controlled slew rate.

It also provides circuit protection features such as short circuits protection , over-temperature shutdown and bus line voltage protection up to 40 volts.
The ATA6662 is fully compatible with 3.3V and 5V devices and includes a dominant time-out function on the TxD pin to prevent the bus line from being driven permanently in a dominant state. A wake-up source recognition indicates, on the TxD and RxD pins, which wake-up has occurred – the local via pin WAKE-UP or the remote wake-up via the LIN bus line. Depending on the recognized wake-up source, the microcontroller selects the appropriate routines.
The ATA6662 LIN transceiver IC delivered in SO8 packages. Sample of this chip is available now. Price for 10K lot is US$0.45 per chip.
