IAR YellowSuite Tools for Freescale ColdFire Microcontroller

IAR Systems introduced its IAR YellowSuite, a comprehensive suite of tools for Freescale's V1 and V2 ColdFire microcontrollers. IAR YellowSuite is powered by IAR Embedded Workbench C/C++ compiler. Integral to IAR Embedded Workbench is the C-SPY debugging tool for testing of code using either a simulator or a hardware debug probe, such as IAR J-Link.
ColdFire Architecture
Building on the 68K foundation, ColdFire architecture comprises high-performance RISC cores with industry-leading code density and a rich set of connectivity peripherals. By supporting variable-length instructions, ColdFire architecture enables higher code density than traditional 32- and 64-bit RISC machines. More efficient use of on-chip memory reduces bus bandwidth and external memory requirements, resulting in lower system cost. ColdFire microcontrollers continue to set the pace for the embedded market — from industrial automation systems to inkjet printers and MP3 players. To date, Freescale has shipped more than a half billion 68K ColdFire core-based products.
Mats, IAR Systems:
The strategic collaboration with Freescale and the addition of the ColdFire development suite to our product portfolio are milestones for IAR Systems…

…We strongly believe that the Flexis QE128 series with IAR YellowSuite will provide a very attractive solution for embedded developers.
Jeff Bock, Freescale's Consumer and Industrial Microcontroller Operation:
IAR YellowSuite for ColdFire provides a powerful suite of development tools for designers building embedded systems based on our ColdFire V1 and V2 cores…
…Our collaboration with IAR Systems also means that developers using the advanced Flexis MCF51QE128, the first microcontroller based on the ColdFire V1 core, will have broad ecosystem support.
Using the combination of visualSTATE and IAR PowerPac with IAR Embedded Workbench enables developers to increase the feature richness and code quality of an application while reducing implementation complexity and improving maintainability.
visualSTATE is an ideal graphical development tool to use for demanding event-driven embedded applications. visualSTATE generates optimized ANSI C code from state machine designs based on UML. It provides advanced verification and validation utilities and generates very compact C/C++ code that is 100% consistent with your system design.
IAR PowerPac is an integrated middleware family that combines a small memory footprint RTOS and a versatile file system.
The evaluation edition of IAR YellowSuite is available with Freescale's evaluation boards for the ColdFire V1 and V2 cores and IAR KickStart Kits for the V2 core.
IAR YellowSuite will be available for ColdFire architecture in September 2007. IAR Systems also plans to offer the tool suite for Freescale's S08 8-bit microcontroller architecture in Q1 2008.
