MontaVista will present a free webinar about embedded Linux development and debugging. The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. (U.S. Pacific Time). In this webinar,  MontaVista is going to demonstrate its DevRocket IDE and USI’s LinuxScope-JTD JTAG target debugger. The presentation will show how these Eclipse-based tools can speed and simplify the embedded development lifecycle, from hardware bring-up to OS/driver loads to application debugging.

As technology advancements and competitive pressures increase, embedded Linux systems engineers are called upon to deliver ever more complex device software with shorter release cycles. Additionally, engineers face problems caused by inconsistent development environments with insufficient user documentation, leading to difficulties in programming for their target devices. To be successful, development teams need a reliable platform and tools that provide stable environments to debug complex applications.

This technically-oriented webinar is designed to provide new insights for developers responsible for kernel and driver synchronization with hardware updates, kernel configuration, creation of system images for boards, and kernel/application integration.

A live question-and-answer session will give audience members the opportunity to interact with the presenters and guide the discussion to their areas of interest.

Event: An Easier Way To Debug Embedded Linux
Date and Time: Tuesday, August 21, 2007 10:30 am
Pacific Daylight Time (GMT -07:00, San Francisco) Change time zone
Duration: 1 hour
Description: Would you like to make your development process faster and easier?

What if you could make debugging less of a burden and keep it better integrated with your application development?

Join MontaVista Software and Ultimate Solutions, Inc. (USI) for a live demonstration of debugging on an embedded Linux kernel. We’ll take you through a real world scenario, using a BDI2000 probe within the MontaVista DevRocket IDE and applying USI’s LinuxScope-JTD™ to debug JTAG targets.

• We’ll show how DevRocket and LinuxScope-JTD comprise an end-to-end Eclipse-based platform for the embedded development lifecycle, from hardware bring-up to OS/driver loads to application debugging

• We’ll give you an overview of the JTAG debug environment and show features you can use for low-level debugging

• We’ll discuss the benefits of using a JTAG emulator for kernel debugging versus source level debuggers such as KGDB

• And we’ll even throw in an overview of Das U-Boot debugging

This demonstration is designed for professional embedded Linux developers. In the course of an hour, you will see how the software works and have a chance to ask more detailed questions.
