BitTorrent announced the availability of its Software Development Kit (SDK) for consumer electronics devices. By this product, BitTorrent is enabling hardware manufacturers to bundle, optimize, embed or develop integrated content delivery services for products such as Network-Attached Storage (NAS) devices, set-top boxes, digital media adapters and routers.

Ashwin Navin, BitTorrent, stated:

Given that BitTorrent is already the standard for rich content delivery on the Web; the growing ecosystem reinforces our vision to provide a very fast, intuitive and seamless way for consumers to enjoy movies, music and games…

Whether it's a NAS device from Buffalo, a set-top-box, a wireless router, or any other partner product, 'BitTorrent Certified’ universally stands for a better digital entertainment experience…

BitTorrent Device Certification program was created to help consumer electronics manufacturers design, and chipmakers build, products that deliver a great BitTorrent user experience and alert consumers to superior products. BitTorrent Certification program applies to two classes of devices:

  • Those that incorporate the official BitTorrent software development kit (SDK), such as NAS devices or set-top boxes, and
  • Those that enhance the BitTorrent user experience such as routers and digital media adapters.

Key Benefits:

  • Use of the BitTorrent brand
  • Product differentiation
  • Available Access to movies, music, TV shows, games and software through the BitTorrent Entertainment Network

Buffalo Inc., is the latest company to announce the plan to integrate BitTorrent functionality into its NAS devices. Buffalo will also participate in BitTorrent's Device Certification Program, which provides seamless compatibility between hardware and the expanding number of BitTorrent-based consumer and commercial-grade services, as well as marketing and branding opportunities.

Morikazu Sano, Buffalo, said:

We see BitTorrent as broadband's next 'killer app' and integrating this functionality more deeply into our product line ensures our customers will be investing in value-added products offering the best digital entertainment experience…

To gain BitTorrent Certified status for our NAS devices informs our customers that we are committed to providing them with a high-performance and simple user experience for accessing and enjoying rich content on the Internet…

BitTorrent will also soon be launching its commercial content delivery platform, BitTorrent DNA. BitTorrent's Device Software business, supported by its SDK and Device Certification Program, bolsters the worldwide installed base of over 150 million BitTorrent clients by helping users identify hardware products that deliver the best performance and consumer experience.
