Atmel announced the new ATA6831 DC motor driver IC with enhanced PWM performance, noise reduction, and protection  features. This motor driver is designed to drive two DC motors or drive up to three different loads in other applications.

ATA6831 has triple 1 Ampere  half-bridge driver . It supports the application of H-bridges to drive DC motors. With an enhanced PWM frequency of up to 25 kHz, the DC motor can be controlled without any audible noise caused by the PWM signal.

The ATA6831 protection features:

  • over-temperature,
  • over-load,
  • over-voltage,
  • short circuits

This chip has diagnostic bits that can be read by the microcontroller. For example, in case of under-voltage at the supply pin, the ‘power-supply fail bit’ is set and all outputs are disabled.

Applications with ambient temperatures of up to 150 degrees Celsius can use the ATA6832.

Pricing: starting at US$0.99 for 10,000 pcs. Development board also available at US$131.
