AT86RF212 transceiver offers high quality RF performance with a link budget of up to120 dB (in 800/900 MHz). The link budget is the result of the -110 dBm sensitivity offered by the device and the maximum output power of +10 dBm. The high link budget combined with the reduced path loss in the 800/900 MHz enables long range wireless communication without the use of external LNA or PA.

AT86RF212 RF Transceiver supports low data rates (20 and 40 kbit/s) of the IEEE 802.15.4-2003 standard and provides optional data rates (100 and 250 kbit/s) using O-QPSK, according to IEEE 802.15.4-2006. AT86RF212 RF Transceiver can also supports proprietary High Data Rates Modes up to 1000 kbit/s

The current consumption of AT86RF212 Transceiver in receive mode is 9 mA and in transmit is 17 mA at a power output level of 5 dBm. The sleep mode current consumption is down to 0.2 uA. Low-dropout voltage regulators provide the analog and digital 1.8 V power supply. Control registers retain their settings in sleep mode when the regulators are turned off. The RX and TX signal processing paths are optimized for low power consumption. AT86RF212’s low current consumption in both active and sleep mode makes this device suitable for battery operated devices.

Security of AT86RF212 Transceiver is handled by an AES 128-bit hardware engine which can be accessed in parallel to all PHY operational transactions and states using the SPI interface.
