AnalogicTech introduced the AAT2601 power management chip designed for CDMA and GSM cellphones. The power management chip integrates all the power requirements of next-gen CDMA handsets, including: a single-cell Lithium-ion battery charger, five low dropout (LDO) regulators, a 300 mA step-down converter, an I2C interface and a reset function. AAT2601 power management chip also includes 2 load switches for dynamic power path/sleep mode operation, applicable for CDMA or GSM cellphones.

Applications of AAT2601 power management chip includes:

  • GSM or CDMA Cellphones
  • Digital Cameras
  • Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs)
  • Handheld Computers
  • Handheld Instruments
  • Portable Media Players

The AAT2601’s battery charger is a dynamic device that has capability in providing power to the system while charging the battery. This regulated (thermally) constant current/constant voltage linear charger combines a pass device, high accuracy current and voltage regulation, reverse blocking protection, charge status and charge termination functions. To optimize the system performance, designer can adjust the charging current, recharge voltage and charge termination current parameters through I2C interface.

The step-down DC/DC converter is integrated with internal compensation and operates at a switching frequency of 1.5MHz, thus minimizing the size of external components while keeping switching losses low and efficiency greater than 95%. All LDO output voltages are programmable using the I2C interface.

To power noise-sensitive circuits, the AAT2601’s five LDOs offer 60 dB Power Supply Rejection Ration (PSRR) and low noise operation. One of the LDOs outputs 300 mA for digital circuit applications. Other four LDOs output 150 mA each.
